Raol Wallenberg
Australia paid tribute on Monday to Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg, who saved thousands of Jews during World War II, by making him the country's first honorary Citizen.
Raoul Wallenberg was born August 4, 1912 July 17, 1947. He was a Swedish architect, businessman, diplomat and humanitarian. He rescued tens of thousands to about one hundred thousand Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary during the Holocaust from Hungarian Fascists and the Nazis during the later stages of World War II. While serving as Sweden's special envoy in Budapest between July and December 1944, Wallenberg issued protective passports and sheltered Jews in buildings designated as Swedish territory saving tens of thousands of lives.

Jämtland
Jämtland is a province in the southwest of the northern central Sweden.
-
Jämtland was originally an autonomous peasant republic. The area then became Norwegian in 1178 and was so for more than 450 years and has been Swedish since 1645.
Historically, socially and politically Jämtland was an exception area between Norway on the one hand and Sweden on the other hand. Jämtland was attacked from east and west and their nationality changed no less than 13 times during the period 1563-1677 .
-Det oldest known name for the landscape is eotalont (normalized Old Norse: Jamtaland) . It´s written on the Froesoe rune stone ,that was erected during the early part of the 1000's.
The first humans came to Jämtland sometime between 7000-6000 BC from the west. They were hunters and gatherers. Several thousand findings from their time have been found around the landscape at campsites, beaches and lakes, including the Offerdal tip from Åflo.
-
After Norway united with Denmark in 1536 Jämtland became under the gouverment of Denmark and it became often a battleground in the Danish-Swedish wars. These resulted in Jämtland was separated from Denmark, Norway, and became part of Sweden by the peace of Brömsebro 1645th.
